AW Style Wishlist

Goodbye SS, hello AW.

With Summer over it's expected to see some cooler weather about. Here in the tropics though, there's only that much cooler the weather can get. Autumn or not, the sun seems to have gotten hotter than it had been this Summer, as impossible as that may sound.

But as tropical storm Gonzalo passes through today, the sky is nothing but a cover of thick grey clouds and I can finally catch a break from the heat. I love cold weather and the rain, call me crazy but that's just how it is.

My AW style wishlist wont necessarily be appropriate for anywhere else but the the tropics and any other places that don't experience drastic temperature drops around this time of year. So, for those of you in the colder regions, I'm sorry if you can't relate. Here's my wishlist.

Floral Skirts
I don't know, I just have a thing for floral prints at the moment and I think that these skirts are great Autumn staples, whether your Autumns are a bit colder or not. I really like these skirts from H&M, Amazon and Debenhams. They're all very versatile, just dress them up with some heels and a top not or dress them down with some flats and a loose braid. I'd love to make these a part of my AW wardrobe.

Handbags
I actually used to hate handbags a while back. I hated them because I'd always have to be holding them. I actually preferred toting around the bare essentials in my pockets - spoken like a true tomboy, not that I am one. But now they've really grown on me - a lot - and I really like these ones from Lane Crawford and Rebecca Minkoff - it's the floral print. What do you think?

Sunnies
I have a slight obsession with these things and I can never really pick just one when is comes to them. Hence, why I have multiple sunglasses in this wishlist. I've recently come to like aviators and these ones from Ray-Ban are quite tempting - polarized, yes please. These cat eye sunnies from Vince Camuto are a real looker, they're one of my favourite styles of sunglasses. And speaking of favourite sunglass styles, the round ones from Net-A-Porter seem like real keepers. See my dilemma?

Ankle Boots
I actually don't have any ankle boots at the moment and I've been wanting a pair for quite some time now. The ones from Charlotte Russe are definitely my style - love the laces.

Watch
I have a fascination with rose gold. It's such a subtle feminine colour and I especially like it on watches. I haven't been wearing any watches as of late and this watch from Michael Kors seems like just the piece to get me started again. Of course I know what time it is!

This is is for my AW Style Wishlist, but tune in for my AW Beauty Wishlist same time, same place next week. Another thing, I Van Rose now has a solid posting schedule. Posts go live on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week.

Thank you truly for reading.

I'll talk to you in my next post.

Mini Makeup Haul

Hello everyone, I have been absent from all thing blogging for two months now. Yes, I do feel bad for having left you guys hanging without a word but just know and try to understand that I needed some time away and now I'm back. It feels so weird to be back blogging after all this time and I hope to get pass this awkwardness and get back into the flow of blogging.

Just yesterday I was out with some friends when I came across some eyeshadow palettes downtown. If you've been reading my blog for very long then you'd know that I haven't been in the makeup scene for too long and am still growing my makeup collection. It'd been a really long time since I'd purchased anything makeup related and I just couldn't help myself. I got one of every L'oreal and Maybelline palette they had - and a mascara.

Here's an overview of what I got.

This is the first time that I've ever been able to get my hands on any Maybelline/L'oreal product just because stores here in Nevis don't usually sell them and the cost of having them shipped here is crazy. So when I saw these, I just had to make them mine.

(504 Subtle Berries, 506 Rose Fields, 804 Autumn Leaves, 824 Landscape.)

Neutrals are my go-to and I like the variety of neutral shades I get from these sets. Prom is coming up and I see myself probably using one of these palettes that night.

(220 Blues, 306 Forest Light, 336 Forest Smokes, 508 Summer Dusk)

Here I have some coloured palettes, nothing too bright.

(20 Blue Blowout, L'oreal Double Extend Eye Illuminator)

Lastly, this Maybelline Eye Studio Colour Explosion palette and L'oreal mascara. I've only opened about four - maybe three - of the palettes so far and I've just been messing around with them. In terms of colour payoff I'm really disappointed in the L'oreal palettes as the colours barely show up at first, it takes constant reapplying, I'll see how it is with a primer and get back to you guys. As for the Maybelline palette, I'm shocked at how vibrant the colours are on their own, it doesn't take a lot of reapplications to have a firm show of colour.

With the mascara, I don't really see any signs of lengthening to my lashes, but I do like the glitter end for highlighting my eyelashes.

That's my report for now and thank you so much for just reading this post.

I'll see you in my next post.

Top 5 Tips for Studying

Hey everyone, I know that I've been absent from my blog for a full seven days, but things have just been rather hectic with exams having started. Hope you understand. But, today I'll be straying from the usual beauty/fashion related posting and doing a bit of lifestyle. Today I'll be sharing with you my top 5 study tips.

In the past few weeks of hitting the books I've come across a few studying tips that I'd like to share with you guys. Here we go:

No Music
I know that the title of this tip may seem a bit daunting and unrealistic as many people do listen to music while they study, I did as well, but this tip only applies to people, who, like me use listening to music as an excuse to take a pause in studying or just genuinely get distracted by it. I've gone through the withdrawal of not having music on when I'm study and even tried listening to online study playlist as an alternative, but I just had to let that go because I just cannot stand classical music. You're likely to go through the withdrawal, but it's work it in the end, right?

The Internet is no Longer Your BFF
The internet can be your biggest influencer in getting you to stop studying. Oh, you need to check an email? Isn't that the usual excuse though? Can't it wait?

Pretty soon checking your email can turn into checking out a couple different websites and you leaving your text book high and dry. It's safer to just have your computer and phone out of sight all together. If what you're studying is on your computer or even the internet, just try your hardest not to open any extra tabs.

Don't Put it Off
Don't put off studying if you don't have a valid reason. And no . . . doing your nails is not a valid reason. In the time leading up to your exams it is vital to make the absolute best use of that time so as not to be having a mini anxiety attack the morning of the exam because you know that you didn't study a few chapters and you're just hoping and praying that they don't show up on the test. Trust me, it's not worth it.

Eating Right is Essential
Your body will need a steady supply of nutrients, vitamins and minerals so that you can be focused when studying and doing your exams. Take it from me, my diet has not been the best thing in the past couple of days and it's not safe to feel as if the only thing keeping you going is fumes.

Don't Over Do It
Striving to get top marks is a very admirable quality but, there is such a thing as over doing it - even in studying. It's important that you get a good amount of sleep and that you take a break after a reasonable amount of study time has passed.

Extra Tips:

- Set up rewards for yourself and stick to the reward system. This will really help you to be motivated to study and make it just a bit more fun.

- Setting up a study time table can also be beneficial. Make sure when you do this though, that you set up good times for study. Don't force yourself to adjust to the table, adjust the table to you.

I hope that these tips will help you guys to better your study habits and I'll talk to you guys again soon.

Bye everyone, I wish you guys the best of luck in your exams!

CoverGirl Lash Exact Waterproof Mascara | REVIEW

Image
I recently got the CoverGirl Lash Exact Waterproof Mascara – in the colour ‘Very Black’ – and so I wanted to do a review for you guys.

What this product claims:
  • Waterproof.
  • Clump-free.
  • Can hold a curl.
  • Defines and Lengthens.
  • Long-lasting.
The first thing that stood out to me about this mascara was that it claimed to be waterproof. I’d never had any sort of waterproof make-up before and so I was very eager to see for myself if this mascara could stand up to the test.

Defining and Clump-free? I applied it, and my eyelashes instantly became recognizable – my eyes looked so much more awake. There were no clumps at all!

Waterproof? When the mascara had dried, I decided to wash my face with a cleanser, paying special attention to my lashes. I did that a couple of times and it would not budge. Holds a curl? But, what I did realise is that this mascara – once dry – makes your eyelashes slightly hard. This product claims to hold a curl for as long as you have it on, and I guess by making your eyelashes hard it’s able to keep that promise. The curl in my lashes did not flop and the firmness of the lash is in no way uncomfortable.

Lengthening? This mascara didn’t in anyway make my lashes look any longer than they had been originally, so that’s a let down.

Long-lasting? Throughout the whole day I didn’t have to reapply the mascara once.
The packaging is simple with the all over pink and single blue line, the slim barrel makes the mascara great for travelling. All in all; this is a really good mascara and I recommend it! (8 out of 10)

Thank you guys for reading. Also I made an Instagram account, it would mean a lot to me if you guys could check it out (here).
